Bishop's Mantles
The mantle is a long and large vestment, without sleeves, a crammed cape, purple, adorned with aside with some strips, called bands or rivers. The mantle is characterized by two sets of plates embroidered of sewed with golden threads disposed on both sides of the joints.
Most probably the vestment has its origin in the old monastic mantle, which the bishops took up as they as well are recruited from the monastic orders.
